Užívání pasiva v ekonomických textech
VETRÁKOVÁ, Petra
The topic of this thesis was the use of the passive voice in texts on economics. English articles from the magazines Czech Business Weekly were chosen and compared with their Czech translations. The texts were analyzed, the rationale for the use of the passive voice described and possible ways to translate the passive voice into Czech discussed. The thesis was divided into two parts, theory and practice. In the theoretical part the passive voice was described from the linguistic point of view, especially its possible forms and constraints which occur in Czech and English. Additional theoretical topics included ways of expressing an agent, the functions of the passive voice, how to translate the passive and the frequency of passives within economics writings. The practical part analyzed the articles in terms of frequency of the passive voice, its most commonly used forms and how the agent was expressed or not expressed. Theoretical reasons why translators used the passive or active voice were discussed.
